CSA-B Wins in Regional Health Research Presentation for Undergraduates

logo2Colegio San Agustin – Bacolod accomplished noteworthy feats during the 2nd Regional Health Research Conference held on October 20-21, 2016 at Sarabia Manor Hotel, Iloilo City. Its student researchers won FIRST PLACE both in the Oral and Poster Research Presentations, Undergraduate Level. The aforesaid research conference was organized by the Western Visayas Health Research and Development Consortium (WVHRDC) in cooperation with the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (DOST-PCHRD), Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region VI and the Department of Health (DOH) Regional Field Office VI.

Mr. Chris John Bedoria, BS Psychology student academic year 2015 -2016,  bested other student presenters from colleges and universities all over Region VI in the Oral Presentation, Undergraduate Level with the research entitled “Resilience, Forgiveness and Anger Expression”, a research study with his groupmates Rosielyn Aguilar, Deomil Mae Canja, Inah Mariel Gayapa and Thea Marie Romero. With the guidance of their research adviser, Dr. Ana Roberta Guanco, Chris John Bedoria grabbed FIRST PLACE in the aforementioned category.

Furthermore, Ma. Myka Barbilla, 4th Year Medical Technology Student, also placed FIRST in the Poster Presentation, Undergraduate Level with the study entitled “Anti-Biofilm Effect of Antidesma Bunius (Bignay) Fruit and Ipomea Batatas (Camote) Leaf Extracts against Certain Pathogens”. With the utmost support of their research adviser, Alain Juayang RMT, MSMT, and her groupmates: Ma. Elena Gulmatico, Marielle Osorio and Razelle Joy Telic, Ma. Myka Barbilla garnered the most coveted top spot for the said category.

Aside from the two winning entries, CSA-B also had another FINALIST in the Oral Presentation, Undergraduate Level presented by Cheska Marie Rabago, 4th year Medical Technology Student with the research entitled “Larvicidal Activity of Chrysantemum indicum Leaf Extract against Mosquito Larvae”; Research adviser Mr. Alain Juayang; Groupmates: Jemicah Bayotas, Angelica Salgado, Teddy Andrew Titular and Jenny Rose Urbano.

CSA-B delegates were led by the Director for Research and Planning, Paolo G. Hilado, RN, DRDM, MN, whose office facilitated the school’s participation to the aforementioned research oriented activity.

This experience serves as a motivation to all Augustinian students and mentors to strengthen research capability as well as a reminder to engage in research not only for academic requirement or competition but most importantly for its outcomes geared toward the betterment of the school, moreover, the society.
