CASE Studes sweeps Top Three Places in 3rd CSA-B Undergraduate Student Research Presentation

Psychology and Medical Technology Students from the College of Arts, Sciences and
Education won the 3rd Colegio San Agustin – Bacolod Multi-disciplinary Research presentation held last March 2, 2018 with the theme: “More than Publication, it’s Research Utilization”. Kristine Joy T. Ayuco, Diana Therese A. Dobrea, Dianne Frances B. Geroche, Mariz Creselda Charmie Q. Musni and Roque S. Valles Jr., 4th Year students of the B.S. Psychology Program of the College of Arts, Sciences and Education who presented their research entitled “Social Anxiety and Social Competence Among Grade 11 Senior High School Students” bested five other entries that were presented.

In second place was the research presented by Ely Roy B. Mellizo Jr., Maribelle E . Siglos, Danica L. Escorpion, Joyce Alyssa R. Mirasol and Danica M. Tingson from the Medical Technology Program with the research entitled “Immunoenhancement Activity of Taro (Colocasia esculenta) Ethanolic Extract on the Innate Immune System of Tilapia (Oreochromisniloticus)” .

The third place was also garnered by Camille D. Baldezamo, Anna Marie S. Gonzales, Karl Mari P. Macariola, Nephi Mae I. Norbe and Kisha J. Torres from the B.S. Psychology Program with the research entitled “Role of Interest, Task Value and Goal Orientation”. Anchored on the theme, such event was held to reinforce the notion among the educative community that research is a crucial instrument to improve the conditions of society which is possible when it is appreciated and utilized.

Giving the opening remarks, Fr. Andrew P. Batayola, OSA, School President, emphasized the continuum of searching and finding through the words of Saint Augustine: “Let our searching be such that we can be sure of finding and let our findings be such that we may go on searching”. It is through this that he reminded the educative community of the call to engage in research to search for truth, to educate the people and enrich the society by using its outputs.

A total of six research papers from the different colleges of the school were presented and evaluated. The panel of evaluators who are experts in research included Dr. Jonel P. Saludes, one of the country’s Balik Pinoy Scientists, former Assistant Professor of Chemistry for Washington State University and currently the Associate Vice President for Research of the University of San Agustin, Dr. Carmelo V. Ambot, Executive Director of the Western Visayas Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (WVCIEERD) and the Vice President for Research and Extension of the Iloilo Science and Technology University, Fr. Romanico O. Cañon, OSA, Doctor of Psychology and Augustinian Friar and Dr. Alice Joan G. Ferrer, Executive Director of the Western Visayas Health Research and Development Consortium (WVHRDC) who is also recognized as a Scientist of the University of the Philippines.

The activity was organized by the school’s Research and Planning Office led by its Director, Paolo G. Hilado RN, DRDM, MN, with the aim to provide a venue for the dissemination of students’ research findings at the same time build confidence amongst them, seek research outputs with potential for utilization to improve conditions in the educative community and emphasize the importance of research ethics in the conduct of studies.
