Colegio San Agustin – Bacolod recognizes the exemplary performance of two Bachelor in Medical Laboratory Science (BMLS) / Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology (BSMT) students in the Research Competition during the 14th Biology Teachers Association (BIOTA) Regional Research Forum held last March 10, 2018 at Central Philippine University, Iloilo City.
Ely Roy Mellizo, Jr. won 2nd Place in the Poster Presentation Category with the study entitled “Immunoenhancement Activity of Taro (Colocasia esculenta) Ethanolic Extract on the Innate Immune System of Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus)”. The study was conducted together with his group namely: Maribelle Siglos, Danica Escorpion, Joyce Alyssa Mirasol and Danica Tingson. Keith Jaszer Agarrado with the research entitled “Isolation of Bacteriophages from Sewage of Slaughter Houses against Certain Strains of Klebsiella pneumoniae” grabbed 3rd Place in the Oral Presentation Category. Members of his group for the said research were Melissa Bustillo, Herbien Rhyss De Guzman, Patricia Dimaandal and Queenie Valencia. Their research adviser is Alain C. Juayang, RMT, MSMT, MPH.
BIOTA, one of the largest professional organizations with regional and active members all over the Philippines, is a registered non-stock, non-profit organization committed to promote the science of Biology in all its branches. Cognizant of the objectives of the Association, CSA-B took part in the competition against other colleges and universities in the region for the dissemination of their research findings particularly on Plant Extracts and Microbiology.
