With three First Place and two Second Place wins, Colegio San Agustin – Bacolod seized the 2018 Augustinian Students Showcase for Undergraduate and Graduate Research & Engagement (ASSURE) Championship title last April 3, 2018 at the University of San Agustin – Iloilo City.
CSA-B bagged First Place in Cluster A and the Top 2 spots in Cluster B in the Oral Presentations of Category 1 – Social Science, Humanities and Business. The research presenters hail from the College of Arts, Sciences and Education and the College of Nursing led by Dr. Mila Tagubar and Dr. Jo Ann Flores respectively.
Mary Bernadette Veronica Chavez, B.S. Education student from the College of Arts, Sciences and Education (CASE) with the study “Feministic Elements of Estrella Alfon’s Three Short Stories” bested six other presenters in Cluster A of Category 1. The study was mentored by Dr. Noeda Madamesila.
Moreover, in Cluster B, students from the College of Nursing (CON) also demonstrated exemplary performance. Tricia Nicole Garcia and Eralyn Liboon with the study entitled “Preventive Health Behaviors of Breast Cancer Patients and the Meaning Ascribed to their Illness” mentored by Mrs. Reyma Magbanua, and Corrine V. Bentinganan and Gloriebelle Dee Diala with their research on “Psychosocial Attributes of the Faculty Members of a Selected Higher Education Institution in Bacolod City” mentored by Dr. Jo Ann Flores won First and Second Places respectively.
For the Poster Presentations, Keith Jaszer O. Agarrado of the Medical Technology Program of CASE, with the study “Isolation of Bacteriophages from Sewage of Slaughter Houses against Certain Strains of Klebsiella pneumonia” was hailed best among six other presentations in Category 2 – Natural Applied and Health Sciences. The research adviser for the winning poster presentation was Alain Juayang RMT, MSMT, MPH. Another win was by B.S. Psychology students also of CASE. “Factors Affecting Senior High School Track Preference of Grade 10 Students” by Philip Conrad Laud, Marie Therese Edith Bala-an and Berlene Duaban were awarded Second Place among 17 poster presentations in Category 1 – Social Science, Humanities and Business. They were mentored by Dr. Ana Roberta Guanco.
ASSURE is an annual event organized and hosted by the Office of the Associate Vice President for Research of the University of San Agustin – Iloilo which features faculty-mentored research, scholarship, and creative activities of undergraduates and graduates from all disciplines. Facilitated by the Research and Planning Office led by its Director, Paolo G. Hilado RN, DRDM, MN, CSA-B student researches in Social Science, Humanities and Business and Natural Applied and Health Sciences were enjoined in disseminating their research findings together with other Augustinian schools in the country in oral and poster presentations.
