Thirty (30) participants comprised of the administrators and professors teaching research subjects in Colegio San Agustin - Bacolod as well as guests from the University of San Agustin – Iloilo underwent Basic Research Ethics Training.Resource Speakers for the aforementioned were from the Philippine Health Research Ethics Board (PHREB), an agency mandated by the country to ensure that research projects adhere to the universal principles for the protection of human participants via Section 12 of Republic Act No. 10532 also known as the “Philippine National Health Research System Act of 2013”. The resource speakers included Dr. Ricardo M. Manalastas, Jr., Chair of PHREB Committee on Information Dissemination, Training and Advocacy (PHREB-CIDTA), and Dr. Doris R. Benavides, Lecturer in Ethics Training through PHREB-CIDTA. The seminar aimed to guide the participants regarding the moral dimensions of research and prepare them on how to avoid, recognize and correct ethical issues when reviewing research protocols primarily to safeguard the human rights of the participants of research. Furthermore, National and International controls and guidelines for ethics in research, focusing on the institutional Research Ethics Committees (RECs) and the Philippine Health Research Ethics Board (PHREB) were also presented.This two-day activity is in preparation for the formation and accreditation of the Research Ethics Committee of CSA-B which will be responsible in reviewing the ethical soundness of the research projects to be conducted by the students and faculty of the institution. In a memorandum dated May 10, 2017, the Office of the President commends the efforts of the Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Principal, Quality Assurance Director, subject area coordinators, faculty, staff and students for their contribution to the success of the BED accreditation.The core programs of the College department have likewise improved on their respective PAASCU status levels. The Arts and Sciences, and Elementary and Secondary Education programs of the College of Arts, Sciences and Education (CASE), the Business Administration program of the College of Accountancy, Business Education and Computer Studies (CABECS), the Mechanical and Computer Engineering programs of the College of Engineering (CoE) have been granted Level II re-accredited status for five years, valid until May 2022.Furthermore, the Entrepreneurship program of CABECS has been granted initial accreditation (Level I) for three years, valid until May 2020. CABECS' Tourism Management program is also eligible for a Formal Survey six months to a year from May 2017, paving the way for a potential Level I status.The School Administration commends with deep gratitude the efforts of all Vice Presidents, Deans of CABECS, CASE and CoE, Quality Assurance Director, Committee Chairpersons and Members, Area Heads, Coordinators, faculty, staff, students and all those who have contributed to the success of the 2017 tertiary level PAASCU visit. The national passing rate is 80.13%.Seven repeaters of the Electronics Engineering program also successfully passed the Electronics Engineer Licensure Examination given on the same dates, achieving a 46.67% passing rate for the College of Engineering. The national passing percentage for Electronics Engineering is 41.27%.Congratulations! Your CSA-B family is proud of your achievement!
