CSA-B PREPARES FOR GOLDEN JUBILEE |

In preparation for the Golden Jubilee of CSA-B, a contest on the formulation of the celebration’s theme is now open to the alumni, students and employees of the school. The theme should revolve around the idea of gratitude with emphasis on CSA-B’s contribution to Negros in particular and to the society in general for the past 50 years. CSA-B’s thrust of academic excellence and the cultivation of Augustinian values may be included as well.
The entries will be judged according to its relevance, appropriateness, clarity and harmony in the manner of its formulation and should not exceed fifteen words.
All entries must be submitted to CSA-B President’s Office not later than December 16, 2009. Entry forms can be secured at the same office. The announcement of the winner will be on December 19, 2009.
The theme will be incorporated in the Golden Jubilee logo design contest to be held on January 2010. For further inquires contact Rudy Reveche, mobile phone number 09054530985.

CSA-B hosts DOST RHRDC Training |

CSA-B hosted the Department of Science and Technology Regional Health Research and Development Committee (RHRDC) training on Good Clinical Practice (GCP) on December 3-4, 2009. The training with focus on good clinical practice involves the ethical standards of clinical research. Both medical and para-medical practitioners in Western Visayas attended the training. Fr. Wilson A. Capillan, OSA, VP for Student Affairs welcomed the participants, lecturers and the facilitators during the opening program. Most of the lecturers were members of the RHRDC VI Ethics Review Sub Committee.

Atty. “Ulan” Sarmiento III Lectures to Academic Community |

Atty. Ulpiano P. Sarmiento III, an authority on Education Laws gave a dynamic and very informative lecture on Education Laws and the Private Schools to the CSA-B academic community last October 30, 2009 at the Auditorium.
The lecture-forum was aimed to orient the academic personnel, the academic support personnel, and other institution officials on the salient provisions of the 2008 Manual of Regulations for Private Higher Education; assist the school administrators in the policy-making and decision-making processes; and promote awareness among school administrators and faculty members regarding students’ rights and privileges as well as the limitations and legal restrictions attached to each of these rights.
This activity included discussions on academic freedom, employer-employee relationships, employment status, academic qualifications, and labor laws affecting private schools. It was followed by an actively participated open forum. All the participants were kept alive through out the day by the wit and humor of the speaker.

CSA-B holds Vocation Awareness Week 2009 |

“The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few; so ask the master of the harvest to send out laborers for his harvest.” (Mt. 9:37-38)
The Campus Ministry Office of Colegio San Agustin-Bacolod successfully spearheaded the celebration of Vocation Awareness Week last November 16-22, 2009.
The activities commenced with a Mass on November 16, 2009 at the School chapel with Presider Fr. President Frederick C. Comendador, OSA and concelebrated by Fr. Lazaro Ervite, OSA, Fr. Rex Fidelicio, MM and Fr. Dexter Palagtiosa, OAR while Fr. Ervite, OSA gave the homily. The mass was followed by the ceremonial cutting of ribbon to officially open the exhibits of invited religious congregations. Twenty one congregations coming both from and outside the province responded generously to the invitation. They were given also the chance to conduct a room-to-room vocation campaign.
The highlight of the celebration was the 1st Augustinian Vocation Jamboree held on November 21-22, 2009 at the school gymnasium. It was participated in by all Augustinian schools and congregations here in the Negros Occidental. |

Three major awards went to Colegio San Agustin-Bacolod during the 2nd joint (8th) Visayas-(9th) Mindanao Rizal Young Leadership Institute (VM RYLI) Conferences attended by 164 youth participants coming from 28 different colleges, universities and youth sectors from the Visayas and Mindanao last October 25-28, 2009 at Punta Villa Resort, Arevalo, Iloilo City.
This year’s theme“My Future, My Responsibility: Rizal is my President” was the brainchild of the Order of the Knights of Rizal (OKOR) aimed to inspire the Filipino youth to showcase leadership skills through the study of life, values and leadership qualities of Dr. Jose Rizal. The conference gave an overview to the different concepts of World Café: “The Spirit of Rizal Lives in Us,” Theory U and Field Theory which are ways of dialogue for an effective relationship with people which a leader should have.
